SEE WHAT USEFUL EVIDENCE LOOKS LIKE

Resume examples for three different roles.

Use these short examples to understand what belongs in a resume entry. All people, employers, qualifications, dates, and activities below are fictional. Replace every detail with your own verified experience.

Use the reasoning, then write your own content

Each example selects evidence for a particular role. The headings provide a structure; the wording shows how tools, actions, and context can work together. These are abbreviated teaching examples, not complete applications or claims about real candidates.

Do not copy a qualification, employer, project, or result because it sounds impressive. A useful bullet is one you can explain: what was needed, what you personally did, and what changed or became possible. Numbers can help when you have reliable records, but a concrete non-numeric outcome is better than an invented statistic.

Software developer: connect a tool to working behaviour

Fictional example — junior software developer

Aarav Shah · Pune
Junior Software Developer

Summary: Computer science graduate with project experience building Java and SQL applications, writing validation checks, and documenting setup for another developer.

Skills: Java, SQL, Git, REST APIs, unit testing.

Project — Service Request Tracker | January–April 2026
• Built request creation, search, and status-update endpoints in Java, with SQL persistence and input validation.
• Wrote unit tests for invalid requests and status changes, then documented local setup and example requests.

Education: Bachelor of Computer Science, Fictional Westfield College, 2026.

Before: “Worked on Java and databases.” After: “Built request-search endpoints in Java and SQL, adding validation and tests for empty or invalid inputs.” The revision explains what the tools were used to do. It does not claim that a student project was paid production work.

For a testing-focused job, foreground the test cases and defect investigation. For a backend job, give more attention to data handling and endpoint behaviour. Include a repository only if you can share it and it represents your own contribution.

Accountant: show the records and checks you handled

Fictional example — accounts assistant

Meera Joshi · Nashik
Accounts Assistant

Summary: Commerce graduate with practical experience maintaining invoice records, comparing statements, and preparing spreadsheet schedules for review.

Experience — Accounts Assistant, Fictional Cedar Supply | July 2024–Present
• Matched supplier invoices with purchase records, logged discrepancies, and followed up with the purchasing team before approval.
• Prepared monthly bank-reconciliation schedules and kept supporting documents linked to unresolved items.

Skills: Excel, invoice reconciliation, ledger records, document control.

Education: Bachelor of Commerce, Fictional Riverside College, 2024.

Before: “Responsible for accounts work.” After: “Compared supplier statements with invoice records and maintained a discrepancy log for the accountant’s review.” The revision identifies an actual process without implying final approval authority or qualifications the candidate does not hold.

Tailor this evidence to the vacancy’s responsibilities. If it asks for a named accounting package, include that package only if you used it. Do not substitute a course certificate for professional licensing or claim responsibility for every part of a team’s accounts.

Customer support: describe the interaction and follow-through

Fictional example — customer support associate

Kabir Rao · Bengaluru
Customer Support Associate

Summary: Customer support associate experienced in written enquiries, case documentation, and coordinating follow-up with technical colleagues.

Experience — Support Associate, Fictional Meadow Services | April 2023–Present
• Investigated order enquiries using case history and account records, explained next steps, and recorded the outcome for the next adviser.
• Documented recurring account-access issues and sent reproducible details to the technical team for investigation.

Skills: Email support, case management, escalation notes, written communication.

Education: Bachelor of Arts, Fictional Hillcrest College, 2023.

Before: “Good communication and customer handling.” After: “Explained order-status updates by email and wrote case notes that let another adviser continue the enquiry.” The revision demonstrates communication through work rather than awarding the candidate an unsupported proficiency score.

Distinguish responding to a case from resolving its underlying technical problem. If the job requires voice support, a particular language, or shift availability, state your actual experience or availability accurately.

Turn an example into your application

  1. Choose the responsibilities in the job description that your experience supports.
  2. Write your own role, employer, dates, and contribution before polishing the wording.
  3. Use the skill-to-evidence method to connect important terms with work you can discuss.
  4. Choose a clear resume format and remove irrelevant or empty sections.
  5. Check the exported text and correct any sample details that remain.

A cover letter can explain one strong connection without repeating every bullet. CareerLift offers free editing, previews, TXT downloads, and existing-resume checks.
