A useful section order for a fresher
- Contact details: name, professional email, phone, city, and useful links.
- Summary: a short, role-focused introduction if it adds useful context.
- Education: qualification, institution, graduation or expected date, and relevant academic detail.
- Skills: tools and capabilities you can demonstrate.
- Projects: practical work that supports the job requirements.
- Internships or experience: relevant paid, volunteer, campus, or freelance contributions.
- Certifications or additional details: include them when they strengthen the application.
You can reorder these sections in CareerLift. An internship directly related to the job may deserve a higher position than education.
Turn a project into evidence
A project entry needs more than a title and a list of technologies. Explain the problem, your contribution, and a result or useful capability. For group work, distinguish your own part from the team’s overall work.
Built a searchable library catalogue using Java and SQL, adding filters for title, author, and availability and documenting setup for other students.
Replace the example with your actual project. Add a repository or demonstration link when it is relevant and suitable to share. If you have a reliable number, use it to describe scale or an outcome; do not invent a metric to fill a template.
Use your education details selectively
Include your qualification, institution, and graduation or expected date. Relevant coursework, an academic award, or a strong grade can help when it supports the target role. Avoid listing every subject or repeating information already shown through a project.
For an unfinished qualification, make the expected completion date clear. If your strongest evidence comes from vocational training, a career-change course, volunteering, or independent work, describe that accurately rather than trying to resemble an experienced applicant.
Write a specific introduction
Instead of a broad objective such as “seeking a challenging position,” explain the type of work you can contribute to and the preparation behind it. A short summary can connect a qualification, relevant tools, and practical work to a junior role.
For example, a commerce graduate applying for an operations role might mention spreadsheet reporting, an internship, and experience organising records. A software graduate might foreground a relevant application and testing work. Use the employer’s terminology only when it is accurate.
Keep personal details relevant to the job
A job resume is different from marriage biodata. Religion, caste, family details, marital status, date of birth, and a full home address are usually unnecessary. A photo is also usually unnecessary unless the employer or local application process explicitly requests it.
Before applying, check your contact details, links, spelling, and file name. Review the step-by-step resume guide and use the file checker to inspect the exported text.
